The Value of a Mentor
I am a woman in Tech, supporting the Tech For girls iniative,most especially those in the low income earning class,that cannot afford to send their child to school, I support giving girls the platform to learn having a hub with system and giving girls laptop and data so these cannot be a barrier. I am a preacher of Tech in the society.
Who is a mentor? A mentor is like a guidian Angel.
A mentor is someone whom you understand and have seen that the person career path are inline with your goals and your mission. You share similar vision based on your research.
Can you walk up to your mentor: Yes..
If you have someone in mind , you can approach your mentor to guide and direct you through your chosen path. But first, you must be ready to obey and understand any reply or answer you get.
What if my mentor is beyond my reach?
Then you will have to reach out, don't sit back,search for his social media handle and follow him.ask intelligentand stupid but smart question when he makes some post about his work. Comment and ask how he arrived at some design or work he is doing. This is you getting your advice indirectly.
In all, remember,your mentor is only human and not God. He may not respond or reply you immediately, always endeavor to support your mentor.
And Don't give up in search for one.
